The overarching goal of EURASTiP is to create and strengthen international cooperation on sustainable solutions for aquaculture between Europe and south-east Asia. To facilitate this, the project also focuses on reinforcing professional skills and competences in industry and research, and to determine how education can be used to achieve this goal. As a result, a series of four workshops looking into aligning and capacity building will or have taken place throughout the project’s three-year duration :
EURASTiP Alignment Workshop:
“Identification of future aquaculture education key topics to support the European/south-east Asian aquaculture industry”

This workshop took place on the 28th of July 2017, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Participants discussed key results from Aqua-tnet, the European multi-disciplinary education network in the field of aquaculture, to look forward to innovative education, training and capacity building, as well as hearing about the ASEAN-FEN approach and current activities. Focus was on future aquaculture training requirements and determining the topics to be discussed at the 3 Capacity Building Foresight Workshops.

“Promoting Innovative Teaching through Collaboration in the International Aquaculture Sector”

The first EURASTiP Capacity Building Foresight Workshop brought together aquaculture parties from both Europe and south-east Asia to discuss trends, opportunities and areas for strategic cooperation in the area of innovative teaching in the aquaculture sector. Innovative teaching is a necessity for all teachers to meet the educational needs of the new generations. Within the aquaculture sector, how can we benefit of the opportunities in this exciting area by collaborating between Europe and Asia and learning from each other ?

“Ensuring Aquaculture Education Meets the Needs of the Aquaculture”

Scheduled to take place on the 25th of August 2018, at AQUA2018 in Montpellier, France, this workshop will pose the question ‘is aquaculture education fit for purpose for the 21st century ?’ and will discuss how collaboration at an educational level between Europe and south-east Asia can ensure that the most versatile employees can be produced for the aquaculture sector to facilitate its continued growth.
